Mazda is simplifying its mid-size SUV lineup for 2027—or at least, that’s the idea. That means we’ll have to say goodbye to one of the automaker’s more awkwardly positioned SUVs: the CX-70. For 2027, the CX-70 is effectively being folded into the CX-90, which is now available in both two- and three-row configurations.

Along with that change, the CX-90 gets a handful of other useful updates. That includes revised rear suspension hardware aimed at improving ride comfort, new exterior colors, and additional standard equipment on select trims.

Mazda says the changes are meant to give buyers more flexibility without forcing them to choose between two closely related SUVs. Given the sluggish sales of both models in recent years, that probably makes sense.

The CX-70 Is Basically A CX-90 Now

Buyers interested in a two-row CX-90 will have to choose between two trims: the 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport and 3.3 Turbo S Premium Sport. Those are the only versions available with both two- and three-row configurations, while the rest of the lineup sticks with a standard three-row setup.

Pricing starts at $41,345 for the base CX-90 Turbo Select, with destination included. The cheapest two-row model costs $48,525 with destination for the Turbo Premium Sport, while the Turbo S Premium Sport starts at $55,185.

Two-row CX-90s also get one-touch auto-down second-row seats, making it easier to access the larger cargo area. Now that you’re nice and confused, here’s how the CX-90 pricing shakes out for 2027:

Trim 2027 Price Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo Select $41,345 Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo Preferred $45,495 Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo Premium Sport $48,525 (Two Row) / $49,725 (Three Row) Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo Premium Plus $52,315 Mazda CX-90 PHEV Preferred $52,340 Mazda CX-90 PHEV Premium Sport $57,145 Mazda CX-90 PHEV Premium Plus $60,345 Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Sport $55,185 (Two Row) / $56,385 (Three Row) Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus $59,615

Inline-Six Power And A Plug-In Hybrid

Regardless of how many rows you choose, the CX-90 still offers two versions of Mazda's turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six. The regular 3.3 Turbo makes 280 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque on 87-octane fuel. The Turbo S makes up to 340 hp and 369 lb-ft when running on 91-octane premium, or 319 hp on regular fuel.

Both engines use Mazda's 48-volt M-Hybrid Boost mild-hybrid system and an eight-speed automatic transmission with standard all-wheel drive. The Turbo S can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped with Mazda's genuine towing accessories.

The plug-in hybrid carries over for 2027, using a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, and a 17.8-kilowatt-hour battery. Total output is 323 hp and 369 lb-ft on premium fuel, with up to 27 miles of electric-only range.

More Equipment For 2027

Mazda also made several smaller changes throughout the lineup. All 2027 CX-90 models get a revised rear suspension crossmember and updated rear suspension bushings intended to improve comfort over rough pavement.

The CX-90 3.3 Turbo Preferred now gets standard roof rails, while the Premium Sport trim adds Alexa Built-In. The top-level Premium Plus models also gain Mazda Online Navigation with over-the-air updates as standard equipment.

The CX-90 is available in several new exterior colors for 2027, including Navy Blue Mica and Aero Gray Metallic. Two-row models can additionally be ordered in Melting Copper Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic.

The standard CX-90 3.3 Turbo Select comes with 19-inch wheels, black leatherette upholstery, a power liftgate, three-zone climate control, a 10.25-inch infotainment display, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and an eight-speaker audio system.

Moving up to the Turbo Preferred brings 21-inch wheels, heated and ventilated front seats, heated second-row seats, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, wireless smartphone connectivity, wireless charging, and front and rear parking sensors.

The Premium Sport adds a more aggressive blacked-out appearance, while Premium Plus brings features such as Nappa leather, adaptive headlights, Mazda's 360-degree View Monitor, and additional driver-assistance technology.

At the top of the range, the CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus comes exclusively with seven seats and second-row captain's chairs. It also gets Nappa leather, Japanese-inspired interior trim, second-row ventilation, additional interior lighting, and Mazda's Driver Personalization System.

With Mazda essentially turning the CX-90 into a single mid-size family for 2027, hopefully this cuts down on some of the confusion at the dealership. And, maybe most importantly for Mazda, translates into more sales.
