You’ve probably received an itemized receipt after getting your car serviced. But did a mechanic ever send you a video log of the work they did?

That’s what Nissan driver Peter Petrella (@peterpetrella) received from a tech at Universal Nissan following his service at the Orlando a dealership and service center.

Petrella, whose screen name appears to be a nod to a character on the television show Heroes, recently posted the footage his mechanic went. In it, the mechanic walks him through all of the work performed on his car, along with the status of its tires and other components.

Now people are saying they want the same service.

Mechanic Gives Video Inspection Of Nissan

Petrella's text overlay on the post reads, “The mechanic at my dealership sent me a vlog after my oil change and I’m cracking up.

In the footage, the mechanic appears to be wearing recording glasses. He uses a pointer with a tiny hand on it to point out which component he's talking about.

“You can see your shock absorbers and springs on both sides of the vehicle are in very good condition. Your tires on the left side are currently coming in at 6/32nds of an inch and then your tires on the right side on the passenger side coming in at 7/32nds of an inch,” he says.

The tech then says the axle and surrounding components are in good shape.

Under the hood, the mechanic notes that he topped off the coolant and washer fluid, and that its brake fluid levels were looking good.

Then be points to the engine air filter, saying that it shows signs of wear, but that a swap at this point wasn’t necessary. He said that by the time Petrella gets his next service he should consider getting both cabin and engine air filters replaced.

“That’s all I got for you today, if you have any further questions reach out to your service advisor. Thank you again for choosing Universal Nissan and I hope you have a great rest of your day,” the mechanic says at the end.

“He Would Have Me As A Lifelong Customer”

In the comments section of Petrella’s video, the Universal Nissan tech, who goes by Kevo online, showed his appreciation for the shout out.

“Thank you I put a lot of effort in my videos as you can tell,” he wrote. Petrella replied: “You made my day!”

Another person wrote that this kind of service would be a major selling point for them when making a purchase. “If I was buying a car and the salesman were to tell me, ‘You’ll get video summations from Kevo whenever your car comes in for service,’ that would be the deciding factor. ‘Done. Take my card. Where’s Kevo? I wanna meet Kevo.’ I’d find reasons to bring my car in,” they wrote.

A second agreed, “He would have me as a lifelong customer. This should be standard practice.” Another person replied that they too believed more mechanics should give this type of video overview of cars for clients. “But wait, why doesn’t everyone do this? Because I love,” they wrote.

Consumer Trust In Auto Repair Service

The American Automobile Association reported in 2016 that two-thirds of all drivers generally distrust auto repair shops.

And it doesn’t look like that perception has really changed over the last decade, either. A mechanic trust’s survey published by Consumer Affairs this year found that 78% of people with cars don't always trust their mechanics.” Further, 80% of those included in the analysis stated that they feel as if they’ve been overcharged by service techs for work as well.

Transparency in pricing and repair/service work is a major area of concern, according to research gathered by a Maru poll featured in Ratchet & Wrench. It found, “Four out of five consumers say transparency is ‘very important’ when choosing an automotive repair shop.”

Videos like the one Kevo of Universal Nissan provided are becoming increasingly popular.

A 2026 J.D. Power study found that that 64% of automotive service customers explicitly requested video and photo documentation of repair work.

Whether they inevitably receive this documentation is another matter entirely, however. Dealership engagement business Kimoby writes that only 26% to 44% of customers receive videos after asking for it. It’s a tool that, when provided, can help improve sales by “$1,993 per repair order,” the business states. Per Kimoby, “Visual evidence more than doubles the yes rate. That isn’t an upsell trick. Customers weren’t being sold harder. They were being shown the actual problem, and they said yes because they could see it for themselves.”

Motor1 has reached out to Kevo via TikTok direct message and Petrella via email for further comment. We'll update this if either replies.
