Lexus confirmed the TX 550h+ plug-in hybrid will not return for the 2027 model year, ending its run after a single generation on dealer lots. The three-row SUV, launched for 2024, loses its most electrified option just as the rest of the lineup gets a modest refresh.

Buyers shopping the 2027 Lexus TX now pick between two powertrains instead of three. Pricing, specs, and the charging question that affected plug-in hybrid shoppers are now settled.

Why The TX 550h+ Did Not Make It To 2027

The TX 550h+ ends production after the 2026 model year. That leaves the TX 350 gasoline model and the TX 500h hybrid as the only powertrains for 2027. Lexus has not stated a reason publicly.

The sales numbers are less clear than they look in many summaries. Public data confirm total TX volume each year in the United States. They do not break out official powertrain splits for the TX 350, TX 500h, and TX 550h+ in 2025 or 2026.

What is visible instead is the broader market pattern. Conventional hybrid versions of three-row luxury crossovers outsell plug-in hybrids by a wide margin, especially when the plug-in carries a higher sticker price and needs home charging to deliver its best fuel savings.

Lexus also trimmed the plug-in from a lineup that now has a different flagship for drivers who want to plug in. For 2027 the brand adds the all-electric, three-row TZ SUV, arriving as an all-wheel-drive battery-electric alternative alongside the gasoline and hybrid TX.

TX 350 Gas Versus TX 500h Hybrid

The TX 350 starts at $58,890 and runs a turbocharged 2.4-liter inline-four rated at 275 horsepower and 317 pound-feet of torque. It's the only TX offered with front-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive is available across every trim.

Fuel economy for the TX 350 tops out at 23 miles per gallon combined. Lexus pairs the engine with an eight-speed automatic.

The optional all-wheel-drive system shifts power from a 75:25 front-rear split to a 50:50 split depending on conditions.

Moving up to the TX 500h means all-wheel drive only, starting at $72,410, a jump of $13,520 over the base TX 350. The payoff is a combined 366 horsepower from its hybrid system, built around the same 2.4-liter engine plus a 64-kilowatt front motor and a 76-kilowatt rear eAxle, and 27 miles per gallon combined.

Lexus Safety System+ 3.0 is standard across the 2027 TX range. The feature set carries over from 2026 with the same starting price, so the loss of the plug-in hybrid option is the main mechanical change this year.

Neither remaining TX plugs in, so neither qualifies for the federal electric vehicle tax credit the 550h+ could claim. Shoppers who want a three-row Lexus with a charge port now look to the upcoming TZ battery-electric model, while TX buyers choose between gasoline-only simplicity and conventional hybrid efficiency with no plug required.
