The latest Honda Passport is one of Honda’s most compelling SUVs in recent memory, and for good reason. It pairs rugged styling with genuine off-road capability and the reliability buyers have come to expect from the brand.
For 2027, Honda has made the Passport even more capable. The automaker raised the SUV’s ride height and redesigned its suspension to make the TrailSport better suited to life off the beaten path. Those changes might not sound like much, but park the new Passport next to its predecessor, and the differences are pretty obvious.
A Bigger, Taller, Tougher Passport
Reddit user CandyCheetoSteamboat (great name) snapped a photo of a 2027 Passport TrailSport parked next to a 2026 model at a local dealership. The two SUVs look pretty similar at first glance, but the head-on comparison shows exactly how much has changed for 2027.
Take a look:
The 2026 Passport TrailSport on the left sits noticeably lower than the 2027 model on the right. There also appear to be some subtle changes to the front fascia, including additional cladding to complement the SUV’s enhanced off-road capability.
So, What Actually Changed?
As the photo shows, Honda’s updates go beyond cosmetics. The 2027 Passport TrailSport sits higher and boasts improved off-road angles, giving it an edge over the outgoing model. Here’s how the numbers break down for 2027:
- Ground clearance: 9.65 inches
- Approach angle: 25 degrees
- Breakover angle: 20 degrees
- Departure angle: 25 degrees
What do you think?

The increased ride height gives the 2027 model an additional 1.38 inches of ground clearance compared with the 2026 Passport TrailSport. Its approach, breakover, and departure angles have also improved by 2, 3, and 2 degrees, respectively. To achieve those gains, Honda redesigned nearly 70 percent of the TrailSport’s suspension components.
Of course, the added capability comes at a price. The 2027 Honda Passport TrailSport starts at $51,590, including destination.
