Bugatti’s future centers on the V16-powered Tourbillon, but the company isn’t ready to let go of the past yet. While clinging to the past is rarely healthy, it can be lucrative for an automaker. Why? Because it can make money twice from the same car: first when it builds it and again when the vehicle returns for a full restoration.

Bugatti has brought a unique Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse back to its original specification, giving the one-of-one roadster a new lease on life. Finished in exposed, polished aluminum with a contrasting red leather interior, the hypercar is a rolling work of art you can’t ignore. Identified by chassis number 8.100, the quad-turbo W16 monster is hands down one of the most unusual Veyrons ever built.

Instead of covering the body in conventional paint, Bugatti made polished aluminum the design's defining feature. The result is a mirror-like finish that highlights the roadster’s sculpted surfaces while leaving the metal exposed. According to the company, which recently cut ties with the Volkswagen Group, creating the distinctive bodywork required delivering aluminum blocks weighing up to 20 tons to its headquarters in Molsheim, France.

Possibly The Least Subtle Bugatti Veyron

The exterior contrasts with a Carmine Red leather interior, while exposed carbon fiber and handcrafted details add further visual interest. Bugatti says the project began with extensive design studies exploring the relationship between proportions, surfaces, and light. Once the concept was finalized, the car moved into the company’s Molsheim atelier, where its experts brought the ambitious design to life. Bugatti also documented every stage of the build to preserve the car’s history.

More than a decade after its creation, chassis 8.100 returned to Molsheim for La Maison Pur Sang, Bugatti’s certification, restoration, and heritage program. The team carried out a comprehensive certification process alongside refurbishment and reconfiguration work, aiming to recapture the original vision while preserving the car’s history and authenticity. That included removing personalization elements added later in its life.

Bugatti says the Veyron has now received La Maison Pur Sang certification and joined a new owner’s collection on the French Riviera. The program helps collectors establish a vehicle’s provenance, verify its authenticity, and restore it to its intended specification when necessary.

Fernando Alonso Was Spotted Driving The Unique Veyron

While the owner’s identity remains undisclosed, the answer is basically an open secret. Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso was spotted driving the not-so-subtle Veyron through the narrow streets of Monaco. The two-time world champion has a well-documented appreciation for exotic machinery, so seeing the 45-year-old Spaniard behind the wheel of such an extraordinary car isn't exactly surprising.

The Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse was once the king of open-top production cars, earning that distinction in 2013 with a top speed of 408.84 km/h (254 mph). It was an astonishing achievement for a roofless hypercar, but Bugatti eventually passed the crown to its successor. The Chiron-based Mistral pushed the benchmark even further, reaching 453.91 km/h (282 mph) in 2024 to become the world's fastest open-top car. Not bad for a company determined to keep even its older masterpieces from fading into the background.

With Bugatti constantly bringing long-forgotten Veyrons back into the spotlight, you could be forgiven for thinking the company built more than the 450 cars that rolled off the production line. Between factory restorations, one-off specifications, and the occasional rediscovery of an exceptionally rare example, the original hypercar seems to be enjoying a second life in the headlines.

La Maison Pur Sang Restores Bugattis To Their Original Glory

Of course, these projects don't add to the production tally, but they do a remarkable job of keeping the Veyron relevant more than two decades after its debut. Sooner or later, the Chiron will also be old enough to warrant more in-house restorations, giving La Maison Pur Sang an even larger pool of cars to work with.

Production of the Chiron was capped at 500 units, 50 more than the Veyron's 450-car run, meaning Bugatti's heritage program could eventually have an even bigger clientele among owners of its modern-era hypercars. The Tourbillion will be the rarest of the three, with production capped at only 250 units. Unlike its predecessors, the car sold out before production even began.
