Citroën Brings Back The Iconic 2CV Van With A Modern Twist

The Citroën 2CV Fourgonnette Concept echoes the classic work van’s proportions while stopping short of confirming any production light-commercial model.

Citroën has taken the wrapping off a second 2CV concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show, and this one wears overalls instead of a city outfit. The 2CV Fourgonnette Concept revives the boxy little van that once hauled baguettes, tools, and parcels across postwar France.

It appears one day after Citroën revealed the electric 2CV city car concept for private buyers. This time the company is talking to tradespeople and small fleets, but it still labels the Fourgonnette as a design study. The aim is to show how an affordable future EV could take the place of the classic work van.

What It Is

The 2CV Concept family previews a future affordable electric model that Citroën aims to bring to market around 2028. The Fourgonnette is a commercial-vehicle take on that same silhouette, built to echo the original van.

Citroën began producing the original 2CV in 1948. The 2CV Fourgonnette panel van followed in 1951 as a workhorse for tradespeople, shopkeepers, and delivery drivers who needed something cheap, simple, and tough enough for daily use. Historical production records describe several Fourgonnette variants built over decades with a single official total above 1.2 million vans.

Xavier Chardon, chief executive of Citroën and DS Automobiles, tied the new concept back to that working-class history. Chardon said:

'The 2CV Fourgonnette was more than just a work tool. It was part of everyday life. Simple, ingenious and accessible, it above all possessed something few commercial vehicles have: a soul.'

Chardon added that the goal was reviving that spirit rather than just the shape. "That is the spirit we are bringing back to life today. Because being useful should never mean being ordinary." Citroën has not confirmed pricing, range, or a launch window for any production version of the van.

The 2CV Details Reinterpreted

The design team relied on proportions straight out of the original Fourgonnette with a short nose, a tall and boxy load area, and flat body panels that recall the cheap-to-stamp sheet metal Citroën used decades ago. Citroën calls those choices a tribute to the original's no-frills construction.

Citroën says it has kept close ties to small businesses and independent professionals for more than a century. The pitch is practicality as a light commercial vehicle built around accessibility and repair simplicity, themes the brand has also pushed on its related electric city car.

For now, the Fourgonnette sits alongside other Stellantis design studies shown around the same Paris event, including the DS F3ver concept and the Peugeot RCZ Vision concept, part of a broader push to revive old nameplates for new attention. Whether the Fourgonnette's van body actually reaches showrooms remains an open question Citroën has not answered.
