It doesn't give any names, but a GT2 RS has been rumored for a while.

Porsche has a plan to bounce back, and it involves a thorough refresh of its lineup. The star of Zuffenhausen’s portfolio will be a new mid-engined hypercar, which we’ll first see as a Mission S concept on October 15. Arguably less exciting but still in the two-door performance car genre, the 718 Boxster and Cayman will return next year as EVs. As we learned yesterday, the gas models are not coming back.
The house of Zuffenhausen is also planning a new gas crossover to replace the Macan in 2028 and is still considering a flagship SUV positioned above the Cayenne. Okay, that’s all well and good, but what about the Porsche? Well, there’s interesting news on the 911 front, too. The Sportwagenschmiede '35 strategy outlined this week at the Capital Markets Day calls for new “highly emotive 911 derivatives.”
While the company didn’t go into details, it’s easy to connect the dots, at least as far as one special variant is concerned. Introduced six years ago, the 992 generation is getting up there in years. Usually, the GT2 RS arrives closer to the end of the life cycle, and test mules are already racking up miles at the Nürburgring.

The GT2 RS Is Likely Not The Only Ultra-Exclusive 911
The ultimate 911 could arrive in 2027 and is rumored to feature partial electrification by adapting the T-Hybrid system from the GTS and Turbo S. A report from Autocar alleges the gas engine alone hit 1,000 horsepower on the test bench, but that’s highly unlikely to carry over to the production model. Instead, the combined output from the flat-six and electric motor could reach 750 hp or more, given that the Turbo S already packs a mighty 701-hp punch.
While a GT2 RS is a predictable guess, Porsche’s Sonderwunsch (“special requests”) division opens a world of possibilities for the company’s most important car. The Slantnose’s revival with the one-off Flachbau is just a recent example, but the sky’s the limit when it comes to bespoke commissions. Alexander Fabig, Porsche’s vice president of individualization and classic, told us earlier this year that there are a myriad of possibilities for truly bespoke models, and he wasn’t talking just about the 911.
Attached below, another slide in Porsche’s new strategy outlined to investors specifically mentions “unique GT derivatives and limited special editions.” Putting two and two together, any future 911 versions are likely to be among the most expensive and rarest of the 992 breed. And if recent history has taught us anything, it’s that collectors will snatch them up even before the cars are publicly revealed.

The Gas Engine Is Not Going Anywhere
What makes this particularly interesting is that Porsche is keeping the 911 as a playground for experimentation while the rest of the lineup undergoes a dramatic transformation. As the brand juggles EVs, hybrids, and combustion-powered models across segments, the 911 remains the one nameplate where Porsche can push the envelope without straying too far from its roots. That makes these upcoming derivatives more than just collector bait, as they could become some of the most fascinating 911s of the modern era.
Whatever Porsche has in store for the 911, we can say with certainty that it will involve a combustion engine. The company is sticking to the pledge it made years ago not to make an electric version of its legendary sports car. Some would argue it has partially broken that promise with the hybrids, but even Porsche has to abide by increasingly strict emissions regulations. Speaking earlier this year, however, CEO Michael Leiters said ICE will always be part of the equation:
“There will be never be a fully electric 911. We stand by that.”

Porsche Sets Up Home Of Sports Cars
Porsche is creating a new “Home of Sports Cars” by bringing Manthey, Sonderwunsch, Exclusive Manufaktur, and Heritage together to develop even more individualized models. In other words, get ready for a new wave of highly bespoke 911s and possibly other models.
Safe to say, the 911’s future is in good hands, and we're looking forward to whatever comes next.
