Mercedes-Benz is making major cuts to its lineup. The German automaker wants to slim down its offerings, particularly on the EV side, with at least three models scheduled to meet their maker for the 2027 model year.

A company spokesperson confirmed to Car And Driver that the EQE sedan (both standard and AMG), Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance, and Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV are all on the chopping block for next year. As the automaker continues bringing its EVs closer to their gas-powered counterparts, the 2027 model year will mark an important step in that transition.

Say Goodbye To The EQE Sedan

The Mercedes-Benz EQE sedan will no longer be part of the lineup for 2027, ending the model's relatively short run. The Mercedes-AMG EQE sedan is also being discontinued.

Mercedes launched the EQE as a dedicated electric alternative to the E-Class, with a sleek, aerodynamic shape that separated it from the combustion-powered lineup. But with the electric CLA already here and a new electric version of the C-Class on the way, the EQE doesn't make quite as much sense as a standalone model.

So Long, AMG S63 E Performance

The Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance is another casualty of the 2027 lineup changes.

The S63 currently pairs a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 with a plug-in-hybrid system, producing 791 horsepower and 1,055 pound-feet of torque. Its departure will leave a gap at the top of the S-Class performance lineup, but probably not for long.

There's a possibility the S63 name could eventually return with a different powertrain. Mercedes has continued developing and investing in combustion engines for AMG even as it expands its electric portfolio, and the company has said that V8-powered performance cars aren't going anywhere just yet.

For now, though, Mercedes hasn't officially announced a replacement for the S63.

Maybach's Electric SUV Gets The Axe

The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is also being discontinued for 2027.

The Maybach EQS was Mercedes' most expensive and extravagant EV, combining the EQS SUV's electric powertrain with a Maybach-specific design, cabin, and premium materials. That's not to say we won't see another electric Maybach in the future, but it likely won't come as another standalone EQ model.

The cuts are all part of Mercedes-Benz’s plan to pare back its EV lineup and integrate battery power more seamlessly into its existing lineup. We wouldn’t be surprised if more models are on the chopping block soon.
