Tesla has pushed back the second-generation Roadster demonstration again, this time from October 1 to October 15, 2026. The company says a severe weather forecast for central Texas forced the change, since the showcase is planned as an outdoor event.
Tesla posted the update on X, telling followers it had been tracking forecasts with local meteorologists before making the call several days ahead of October 1. The company did not confirm a new venue in that update, only the revised date and the weather-based reason behind the shift.
Severe Weather And An Outdoor Format Behind The Call

The new date arrives two weeks after the originally planned reveal. It is the latest in a string of delays for a car Tesla first unveiled as a prototype in November 2017, when production was promised for 2020.
That 2020 target came and went, along with several later dates. The demo has slipped repeatedly since that 2017 prototype reveal, as production and showcase plans moved further into the decade.
Tesla shared its own account of the delay in an event update on social media, describing it as a weather call rather than a technical one. "We have been tracking the weather closely with local meteorologists, but given the severe conditions predicted and because this event can only be held outdoors, we have made the difficult decision to reschedule," the company said.
Production guidance still points to 2027 or 2028, based on statements Elon Musk made in November 2025. The October postponement does not appear to change that schedule. It does make one detail clear. The Roadster reveal depends on live outdoor conditions instead of a studio setup.
What The Delay Means For Reservation Holders
Tesla has been clear that the format is driving the delay, not the car itself. The Roadster demonstration is set up outdoors in central Texas, so a forecast of severe weather in that region was enough to force a reschedule.
Before the postponement was finalized, invitees were already told that the event might need to move because of the forecast. Tesla was monitoring conditions and had identified the outdoor requirement as the key vulnerability well ahead of the final call.

Flight restrictions from the Federal Aviation Administration over the Waco and McGregor, Texas, area through October 2 now strongly tie the Roadster showcase to SpaceX's rocket test site near McGregor, backed up by invite-based reports. Tesla hasn't spelled out the exact venue in its own posts. Details about specific technology demonstrations still await confirmation on the company's channels.
For now, anyone holding one of the reservations gets two more weeks of waiting, with no changes to pricing, specs, or the production timeline.
