- The 2026 Morocco Desert Challenge covers over 1,700 miles of punishing desert over the course of eight days.
- Ariel modified a customer-owned Nomad to compete in the event.
- The Nomad finished the race without any mechanical malfunctions, only requiring routine maintenance along the way.
The Nomad sits as the off-road adventure version in Ariel's family of madcap motorcars. An Atom goes fast on a racetrack, but a Nomad can go fast anywhere. Even the punishing Moroccan desert serves as a perfect playground for the Nomad.
Ariel helped a Nomad owner compete in the 2026 Morocco Desert Challenge. The event unfolds over eight days, as competitors cover eight stages and more than 1,700 miles of brutal terrain.
And the Nomad crossed the finish line with nary a mechanical breakdown along the way.

Ariel worked with the owner to produce a vehicle ready for battle. The Nomad received upgraded suspension, which both lifted the ride height and widened the track. The driveshafts were beefed up, Öhlins dampers were bolted in, and this mega Nomad was tested and tuned before the owner was set loose in Morocco.
While those upgrades are substantial, they're not that wild. This is the sort of thing an owner could theoretically do to their own Nomad.
But the most intriguing part of the story isn't the upgrades. The Nomad not only finished but had zero mechanical breakdowns along the way. Ariel says the only items changed were air filters, oil, brake pads, and the suspension dampers were serviced. That's basically routine maintenance for an event like this.
The Nomad is clearly one tough beast. And even the Moroccan desert is no match for one of Ariel's coolest creations.

Motor1's Take: I'd already considered the Ariel Nomad one of the coolest cars ever made. Now that one has just kicked serious butt at an incredibly difficult rally raid event, it proves that notion even more.
Ariel should build a special edition version for customers wanting a similar spec. The Nomad Morocco has a great ring to it, no?
