Toyota's motorsports arm has built its own go-kart. Gazoo Racing put the GR Kart on sale across Japan on September 10, 2026, at ¥385,000 (about $2,500) including tax as an entry-level machine for children, families, and other new racers.

It is a small rig with a clear mission: get more people onto a track. The kart runs a 215-cubic-centimeter gasoline engine, weighs 183 pounds, and sits at the base of the GR performance range as its most affordable way in.

Toyota GR Kart Launch Details

Gazoo Racing builds the GR Kart at its Gamagori GR Kart Workshop in Aichi Prefecture and sells it through 36 kart tracks and 7 GR Garage dealers across Japan. That gives a niche product a surprisingly broad retail network.

Toyota kept the dimensions tight so owners can haul it without taking it apart. At 71.7 inches long, 45.7 inches wide, and 26.4 inches tall, with a 41.1-inch wheelbase, it fits whole into a Noah or Voxy minivan.

The seat adjusts for drivers between 4.4 and 6.1 feet tall, so one kart can cover a kid's first laps and a parent's turn at the wheel. A companion app walks newcomers through basic setup and offers simple driving tips.

There is one hard limit: the GR Kart is for closed courses only, with no path to road registration. Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda has said he wants motorsports to be something "more people can take up, like baseball or soccer," and this kart is the company’s direct response.

Where GR Kart Fits In GR's Lineup

Gazoo Racing did not start in karts. It grew out of Toyota's push to turn it into a full performance sub-brand, and the GR badge now covers everything from small road cars to full race machines.

At the hard-core end sits hardware like the GR GT supercar. The GR Kart is the opposite pole: cheap, compact, and aimed at someone who has never turned a competitive lap.

Road cars such as the GR Yaris Morizo RR and the GRMN Corolla bring that racing-first mindset into showrooms. The kart mirrors that philosophy in its own way by lowering the cost and hassle of getting on track.

The GR Kart is scheduled to run in Japan's A1 City Grand Prix GOTSU 2026 street event weekend on December 12 and 13, using carbon-neutral fuel on a temporary city course.

Motor1's Take: The GR Kart could turn casual curiosity into regular track time by giving families an easy on-ramp. That kind of steady entry-level traffic is exactly what local circuits and the GR brand both need.

How far the concept goes comes down to what Toyota does next with availability and structured coaching. If the brand follows through, this small kart could quietly reshape its grassroots pipeline.
