Sometimes the most mysterious automotive problems come with the most unconventional explanations, but one Arizona man's parking lot discovery had TikTok users divided over whether extreme heat can literally reshape your car.

TikTok user @menwilldie discovered a head-sized dent in his car door after he left it parked in the lot of his building. His May 9 video, titled "Someone did some poor body work who last owned my car…" shows security footage that, for some viewers at least, raised more questions than it answers.

The Investigation

The video begins with menwilldie reviewing security camera footage and speaking with a security guard in his office about his mysterious dent. The snippet of conversation outlines the crux of the mystery: no footage exists showing anyone hitting his vehicle.

"Okay, so literally nothing. There's nothing. No footage," menwilldie says to the guard, who confirms there was no explanation for the damage.

In the security footage, viewers can see menwilldie inspecting his car, clearly baffled by what he discovers.

"I'm just staring at the car making, like, I called my girlfriend and everything. I was like, hey, uh, did anybody hit my car while I was gone? Oh, that's terrible. Okay," he narrates over the surveillance video.

The Shocking Discovery

Viewers then see the damage up close—a substantial dent in the driver's side door that no one can explain. Filming with his phone's front-facing camera, menwilldie delivers his conclusion with evident frustration.

"Nobody hit my car and the door just randomly [expletive] caved in. Like this [expletive], this is... This is like a huge [expletive] dent. Like this thing's huge. The Arizona heat is no [expletive] joke," he explains, pointing to the deep divot in his car’s bright orange panel.

Can Heat Really Do That?

While extreme temperatures can affect automotive materials, the idea of heat alone creating such a substantial dent in a metal door panel has automotive experts and viewers skeptical. Arizona's intense heat is notorious for damaging car interiors, cracking dashboards, and affecting paint, but structural damage to metal panels is far less common.

As such, many viewers were unconvinced by the heat theory, with many suggesting alternative explanations for the mysterious dent.

"That footage was deleted bro bro," commented slow_b8, while Feluminati added, "Nah they hit it and deleted that part of the video."

Others questioned the physics of the claim. "There's absolutely no way that was from heat, it's barely even 100," wrote Bashful Bandit, while user Dancing Sushi, claiming local knowledge, stated: "Arizonian here, it's not from the heat broski."

But some commenters offered more technical explanations. Cstiizzy808, who identified as doing bodywork, suggested, "I'm guessing that dent was probably there from a long time ago and the heat probably finally pushed it back in because the same way to pull that dent out is to heat it up and pull it with a suction cup."

User marty_regal offered a similar theory, writing, "There's a chance that door had been dented prob before you had it, it got popped out and the heat found that memory."

While it’s possible they’re right, there’s not a lot of agreement online among experts that even the hottest day could reverse the effects of what’s called paintless dent repair, where body shops use heat and compressed air to deal with minor dings.

The Practical Side

Several viewers focused on solutions. "Go to Harbor Freight and get a suction tool and pull it back out," advised Patricio Torres, while another user simply suggested he "use a plunger to take it out."

Whether caused by Arizona's legendary heat, previous damage, or something captured on mysteriously missing security footage, menwilldie's experience serves as a reminder that car ownership in extreme climates comes with unique challenges and, now and then, inexplicable mysteries.
