Chrysler abandons its electric SUV

Chrysler has confirmed that development programmes for the Airflow have been halted. It was due to make its debut between 2025 and 2026.

Chrysler's relaunch will no longer include an electric SUV, and in all likelihood, the Airflow will not become a production model. The rumour comes directly from the United States and a 'leak' revealed by Mopar Insiders.

Among the leaked documents is an email exchange between the brand and its suppliers stating that the project codenamed C6X (CA) - the one attributed to the Airflow - has been "suspended until further notice" and that any investment related to this model is to be "halted immediately".

In the hours that followed, Chrysler confirmed the news. The brand's CEO, Chris Feuell, explained that "the project is temporarily on hold as Chrysler recalibrates its offering in line with market needs".

Concept Chrysler Airflow

Although presented at CES in Las Vegas in 2022, this concept has remained in the shadows over the years. In an interview with Motor Trend in 2023, Ralph Gilles, head of design at Stellantis, admitted that the company was working on an Airflow with a completely different look to the prototype. Apart from that, nothing else.

In the brand's original plans, the Airflow was due to make its debut between 2025 and 2026, with a range of over 373 miles, Level 3 autonomous driving and a maximum power output of 400 PS.

Upgrades on the horizon

However, new additions to the Chrysler range are in the pipeline. By 2026, the American brand is expected to present two models derived from the Halcyon concept, both built on the STLA Large platform.

These additions would be a breath of fresh air for the company, whose range consists exclusively of the aforementioned Pacifica (also sold as a plug-in hybrid) and the Voyager, which is in fact an older-generation Pacifica.
