For many years, the Fiat Panda has been the perfect city car, technically simple and cheap to buy. However, with the arrival of the new Fiat Grande Panda, a larger and always electrified model, the price will go up.

Today, in fact, anyone looking to buy one of the "original" Pandas will find that the small Italian city car is only available in a 70 PS mild hybrid version, with good performance and fuel consumption. The problem? The undiscounted price is well over €15,000 (approx. £12,500)?

That said, Fiat has the solution in-house. And if you don't believe us, just take a look at its South American division, where you can find such interesting models as the Mobi, a very compact city car that can be bought on the cheap.

A cheap city car, for £8,300

Marketed in countries such as Argentina and Brazil, the small Mobi has a very interesting starting price: from around €10,000 (approx. £8,300) at the current exchange rate, if we take the Brazilian market as a reference.

And the best thing about it is that it is marketed with a standard finish and with a more adventurous one, the Mobi Trekking, which adopts its own aesthetics with certain crossover features.

Mechanically, however, don't expect any complexities or electrification. This Fiat uses the classic 1.0 Fire naturally aspirated petrol engine with 74 PS, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.

Let's talk about equipment: what does the Fiat Mobi come with? As standard, it comes with basic features such as air conditioning, power steering, tyre pressure monitoring, on-board computer, electric front windows, central locking and rear window wiper.

In addition, being a car for less demanding markets than the European ones, in terms of safety, the optional Safety Pack, adds stability and traction controls, as well as hill start assistance.

And the Mobi Trekking? Well, it also has a multimedia system compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, 7-inch central screen, multifunction steering wheel, USB port, longitudinal roof rails, height-adjustable driver's seat and exclusive aesthetic details. The Style Pack comes with 14-inch alloy wheels and electrically adjustable door mirrors with indicators.
